Mind/Body/Art is a community-based, multidisciplinary, performance installation. It utilizes participatory photography and yoga in order to bring about direct social action within a collaborative, artistic environment. Participants will explore their experiences through a series of interactive modules designed to blur the lines between contemplation and the messy stimuli of ordinary life. In the course of these modules, aural and visual media will accompany mindfulness exercises, followed by hands-on interactive opportunities to share and create original artwork. Ultimately, MIND/BODY/ART aims to shed the barriers of traditional artistic spaces and the broader community by promoting the resilience of direct engagement through collaborative action in the face of affective, often overwhelming, material. By doing so, MIND/BODY/ART hopes to document the transformational power of art to interpret and express common personal experiences, particularly among underrepresented populations such as people of color, low-income individuals and families, and LGBTQ persons. MIND/BODY/ART embraces participatory photography in its intent, process and outcomes.  The project asks the question: Can lived human experience itself be art?
